Product Description

Nest-building behavior is a very significant genetic characteristic of mice, which plays an important role in the life cycle of mice. nest-building is an important survival skill of mice, especially in response to environmental changes. Mice build nests to protect themselves from weather, predators, competitors, and to control the temperature of the outside world, which keeps them warm. Therefore, the nest provides a good habitat for the mice. Pregnant mice build very complex nests, and the ability to do so extends to both male and female mice. As they nurse their young, the mice build their nests in sheltered places. To make their nests resistant to outside interference, they often build them into bowls or domes, which are more suitable for feeding their young. In previous studies, the subjects were mostly pregnant mice. A growing body of research suggests that nesting materials are just as attractive to males as to unpregnant females. In Nude mice, temperature regulation is especially important because of hair loss. Nesting materials such as paper scraps, paper strips and cotton swabs provide ideal insulation materials for them and play an important role in the rearing of nude mice. In the experiments of nesting material and shelter pipe and nest box selection, the mice preferred the nesting material. The researchers observed that in order to obtain the nesting material, the mice could overcome multiple obstacles and difficulties, such as climbing over a grid fence that made them very uncomfortable.
For Rats, the environmental stimulation of normal feeding conditions is also extremely limited. If rats are given nesting material, they can control the temperature of their surroundings, adjust the intensity of light, and build shelters to increase their sense of security. Vanloo pointed out that rats like to use nest-building materials to build their nests by observing the behavior indexes of rats. If the nesting material is provided for newborn rats, it can be used as a good environmental material for improving the welfare of experimental animals. Nesting behavior not only enriches the living environment of mice and rats, but also strengthens their nesting nature. Therefore, nesting materials such as paper scraps, paper strips and cotton swabs are very effective to improve the welfare of experimental animals.
